Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My soon to be exhusband is retired and and carries medical and life insurance on me, he said that he is good with adding into our divorce papers that he will continue to carry medical and life insurance on me and would also put into the papers that he would not be able to change me as his benifaracy on his life insurance policy. We live in Texas is this legally possable?

You've raised a number of issues:

1. Is it at all possible for him to carry your health insurance once you are divorced? Most health insurance plans will not allow you to cover an ex spouse.

2. He can put it in the final decree that he is not able to change the beneficiary of this life insurnace and then immediately do it anyway. It would be very difficult for you to know that he's done this until AFTER he has died and then it would take you a tremendous amount of work to enforce that provision--and you would stand a good chance of losing.

3. He can continue to pay for your life insurance, but what do you need it for? It's certainly no benefit to you.

It sounds to me like he's trying to prevent you from taking assets TODAY in exchange for some future benefits that you will probably never get. You need to hire an attorney to at least evaluate this settlement proposal for you.

Good luck!!
