Mother of minor child has already signed and notorized a paper that relinquished her parential rights but the father is awol from navy and has warrant in state of Va and we have no address or phone number mother or father. They live somewhere in east texas and neither one of the parents work. They both do drugs. We would like to get guardianship of our 5 month grandaughter. What does it invole and cost?

If you are in the Houston area call our office. If not call some Attorney, you can possibly get what you want. I would not be able to quote a price without more facts.

Re: guardianship of minor child

First of all, the notarized document surrendering parental rights is not effective without a court order. Guardianship must be done with notice to the parents and the surrender of parental rights is not appropriate in a guardianship proceeding. Guardianship could likely be accomplished for approximately $1,500.00 plus court costs and expenses. Custody would likely be more expensive depending upon the opposition by the parents.
