Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My son who is 17 has gone to stay with his dad on a temporary bases on December 17th. I received a letter from the attorney general wanting us to review the case bc his dad now want to have the child support stopped, I have been writing him a check back for the amount that is garnished from his paycheck since January for the whole $200 he pays a month. We have this meeting Friday @ 3 and just not sure how to handle this. I told my son he would have to stay for at least 6 months before he could come back with me. My son claims he wants to live with him but his dad has intimidated and manipulated him all his life so I feel like my son says he wants to live with his dad just to please him.. I hope you can help; thanks for your time.

The meeting with the Attorney General sets up a "CSRP" meeting. You will talk to a child support officer - not a lawyer - who will try to broker an agreement.

Rule #1 is: YOU DON'T HAVE TO AGREE TO ANYTHING. Don't feel like you have to. JUST SAY NO.

If you don't make an agreement in the AG meeting, you'll end up in Court. So what? In Court, you can let the Judge decide.

By the way ... you can either write him a $200 check each month, or just set the money aside.
