in Texas how does the court view the following: single dad who has a special female friend who sleeps over maybe twice a month while he has his 5 year old son with him? He was told the court does not look favorably on that situation if he is fighting for full custody of the child.

That is an issue and generally stipulations can be put into the visitation decree about overnight visits.
