Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Roommate Responsibility

About a year ago, I became unemployed and moved in with someone I knew from school. We are not related, nor romantically involved. Until I received a part-time job a few months ago, I was totally unable to help with the rent and utilities (which are under her name). However, in trade, I helped her with housework, schoolwork, and even with her job. Now, due to personality conflicts and out-of-town job prospects, I want to move. I wanted to know if I could be held responsible for paying half of the rent and utilities from the period I was living in her apartment.

Re: Roommate Responsibility

If your name is not on the lease, not on any of the utility bills and you haven't signed anything stating that you agreed to pay a portion of the living expenses, then you should not have a problem. This opinion is based on the facts supplied in your question. I suspect that since your conscience is bothering you, that there is probably more to the story.
