Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Settlement of damages with neighbor

Hi,

I hired a tree cutter to cut a tree in my back yard. While he was cutting the tree one branch fell and damaged the power line of my neighbour. My tree cutter fixed the power line but a few days later my neighbour said he's suing for damages (claiming that he had to do a lot more repairs than what my tree cutter did). For the last few months we have been in back and forth discussions but we have reached an agreement now. I pay $500 and the tree cutter pays $500 and that will be the end of the matter. I am worried about what might happen next. How do I ensure that the neighbour doesn't come back a few weeks from now and say I need more money? I was thinking of writing a letter to my neighbour's lawyer saying here are the two checks and this shall absolve me from any responsibility towards you. Does all of this make sense or would you recommend I do something else. Is there any specific wording that I need to include in my letter?

Thank you for all of your help.

Re: Settlement of damages with neighbor
