Auto Injured Passenger's Rights and Compensation Laws

I was involved in an auto accident in Nov.01, I was a passenger in the back seat. We traveled into the far left lane during a horrible rain storm and a van hit us from behind, knocking me unconcious, and injuring several discs in my spinal cord. My attorney filed a claim in which the insurance company offered not even half of my medical costs for a settlement, so we are taking it to jury trial. I am scheduled for surgery real soon and don't won't to suffer through more pain than am already in without some kind of compensation for this suffering. Can you please tell me what the insurance laws state as far as their liability for my injuries and medical costs? I'd also like to know what the ''Stower's Doctrine'' is? If I am a negligent passenger, do I not have certain rights to recover something for my medical costs, pain and suffering, mental anguish, not to mention my emotional trauma?

My question is why are you seeking an answer on the internet? Why don't you trust your own attorney enough to ask him/her? If you need other advice, I suggest you consider changing attorneys.
