Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Employer only paid me 40% of what I was owed.

I was laid off on 7/15. The owner of the company called me and let me go with no notice. When I checked my bank account, I noticed that my check was only $500 instead of $1250. He said that he thought that was fair. Is he allowed to do that?
