Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Paid Time Off being taken away

Our company merged with another company about 1.5 yrs ago. The company I worked for had accrued PTO up to certain max amounts depending on the number of yrs worked. Friday (5/30) we received an e-mail that as of 6/1 accrual of PTO stops and we have until our next anniversary date to use all accrued PTO or we lose it. We can only be paid for it (before that next emp annv) if we separate from the company. Many people are going to loose more then a full months wages. Can they take the PTO away from us that was already earned?
