Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

My neighbor in the apartment next to mine was murdered. I tried staying in my apartment, but find it hard. I have nightmares of policeman banging on my door and I hear noises at night. The apartment management say I can move, if I pay $475 to get out of my lease. Is there any legal loop hole that will allow me to break my lease, because of what happened next door to me?

Possibly. However, if you break your lease and are sued, it may cost you more to hire an attorney to defend you. Plus if you loose, you'd have to pay the difference. Since this would be a contract action you may be responsible for the landlord's attorney's fees. Depending on the facts, this may be a good offer. After all, everyone hears noises at night and lots of folks have nightmares.

What about moving to another apartment in the same complex?
