Re: ambulance chaser

It is not only illegal, but highly unethical, for any attorney (or anyone on their behalf) to solicit a case without being invited by the party to do so. The only exception is if there is a prior attorney/client relationship; under those circumstances the attorney can offer to help his previous client with a new matter. The practice of "ambulance chansing" and "runners" is rampant in Texas, and especially in Dallas. The only way to combat this practice is to (1) never hire an attorney who solicits in any way and (2) report that attorney to the State Bar. Solicitation of a case or offering to pay money to the client or to one who refers a client is called "barratry" and is a felony offense for both the attorney and the client accepting the bribe and the "runner" accepting the "referral fee." Please do your part to help us weed out these unethical lawyers. Do not hire them, and do report them to the Bar Association.

That is illegal and unethical. Any lawyer who does this, or has someone do it on his or her behalf, should be reported to the State Bar of Texas. Please visit http://tinyurl.com/4r29y to file a complaint.
