Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

I was watching a neighbor's dog. (there was no contract stipulating what to do if there was any problems, nor was any money exchanged for my services) Their puppy got into iron pills, in their house, and they are now asking my to pay the vet pills for getting the dogs stomach pumped. Do they have any legal basis for this/

You assumed the duty of watching the dog. The issue is whether you breached that duty. How did the puppy get into the pills? If it was due to some failure on your part to watch the puppy while with it, then you breached your duty. Where were the pills kept? If they were left out by the owners, then maybe you could argue they are responsible too. Usually watching someone's dog involves feeding it and taking it outside. I really need more information about what you agreed to do and how the dog got into the pills in order to give you more specific advice.
