Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

real estate question

I inherited a home in 2001 and it has since been occupied and maintained by family. I'm in college currently and should be graduating in approximately 2 yrs and I've been asked various times by family members to buy the home from me since it's in need of some repairs that I can't afford. My question is can if I did decide to sell the home is there anyway that I can require them to give me first of refusal if they decide to sell the home.

Yes. You can put a right of first refusal in the deed. Be sure the deed drawn properly by an attorney to protect your interest.

Please be sure your family is paying you a fair price for the house. You can check the appraisal district for what is shown on a tax appraisal, but often this amount is low. You can also go to www.zillow.com or call a local real estate agent. Unfortunately I have seen young naive heirs taken advantage of when they don't know the true value of the inheritance.
