Legal Question in Social Security Law in Texas

Survivor Benefits for Minor Child

My 11-year old granddaughter

receives social security payments

because her father is dead.

Her mother received $300 in child

support and is now getting a $700

check that she believes is her money.

The child has to share a bedroom

with a brother and sister and none of

the money is used for her; I provide

all school and other clothing. No

money is saved for her education;

she is in the 'gifted and talented'

program at her school and she will

most likely attend college.

What can I do to ensure that at least

part of the social security payment is

placed into a fund for my grandchild's

education?

Talk to SS and see if you can be named the guardian for SS purposes. I doubt it but you can try. Good Luck.
