My father died without a will,

My father died without a will,

in significant debt, owned a business and was married to my step mom. what obligation do I, as surviving child, have? I have 1 sibling .

You and your sibling are entitled to half of his estate. Your step-mom gets the other half. If the assets are greater than the liabilities, one of you should move for determination of heirship and get his estate on legal footing. You do not have any liabilities as an heir, and you can always disclaim your inheritance.
