Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in United Kingdom

Loan not paid by Ex-Partner

I split up with my partner last July. Prior to this I had taken out a loan for 20,000 to amalgamate all his debts. He signed a letter, which I have, saying that he would be responsible for the repayments. He is not paying them. Is there anything I can do legally.

Re: Loan not paid by Ex-Partner

I think that you will appreciate that so far as liability for repayment to the lender is concerned, this is your sole responsibility and they will have little interest in your problems with your former partner.

In these unfortunate circumstances it is probable that the only course open to you is to bring court proceedings against your former partner which will be based upon his promise evidenced by the letter you have, to pay your liability to the lender. Unfortunately in the meantime you will simply have to keep paying the loan. Once you have a judgment against him there are various methods in which the judgment can be enforced.

If you need further help or advice, please let us know.
