Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

Can the non-resident parent, take the resident parent to court to try and alter the judgement of a residency order? I thought a residency order was cast in stone until the child is either 16 or in exceptional circumstances 18, am I right?

A court can always vary a residence order if it would be in the child's best interest to do so.
