Can a solicitor legally withhold part of or,all of his/her client's compensation from a local authority housing repair case where the client has recieved legal aid until the solicitor recieves payment for the case .

Only if part of the money received is payable to Legal Services Commission in respect of the Statutory Charge to repay legal aid granted. If public funding has been granted the solicitor may not retain money in respect of his fee.
