retail practices and �money back guarantees''
My question is related to laws about retail practices, specifically about �money back guarantees�. I had purchased a diamond in the US Virgin Islands at a store with a well know/advertised guarantee: �If you wish to return any item for any reason within 30 days of purchase Paul will gladly refund your full Purchase Price, Guaranteed!� Now, back in US (new york) the diamond was appraised for much less than I paid and its value reported by the store. When I contacted the store requesting to return my diamond, I was told that I don't have a valid reason (buyers remorse as they put it). They requested two official appraisals before they would talk to me any further. Do they have the right to request anything when they have such a solid guarantee? I still have about two weeks before the 30 days are gone. Is it better to try to get a approval for return from the store first? Can I just send the diamond back and fight to get my money back?

If the store has an outlet in New York State you might sue them in small Claims court here. If, however, they only sell in the Virgin Islands, then you might have to go there to sue them, which will probably cost you more than the stone is worth.
