Legal Question in Technology Law in Utah

Can I be sued

Hello,

I recently bid and won a car on ebay. When it came to financing I found out that I could not qualify. The person selling the car on ebay was not the owner of the car, and turns out he was selling the car for a friend. And the car had a lien under his friends name at a local bank. The car was listed at 8500 and we bid 10000. He has not even attempted to relist and sell the car, and we have never taken possesion of the car. He is threatening to sue us, and says that we are responsible for $1500, which doesnt make sense to me since there has not been a loss yet since he hasnt tried to resell the car. He just wants us to give him the 1500, meanwhile he still has the car and does not know what he will sell it for...

Re: Can I be sued

I defer to an attorney in Utah to answer this question.

I'm not familiar with how eBay works, and this does not relate to FL or Federal law. I don't have the answer.
