Legal Question in Construction Law in Virginia

unlicensed building contractor

Aside from slowness and wanting advances for work not yet performed, I don't think I have any serious performance problems with my evidently unlicensed contractor. (Moreover, he has performed well on 2 previous smaller projects.) However, now that I am fairly certain he is unlicensed, I am concerned about letting him proceed with the roofing, largely from an insurance standpoint. Before I confront him in regard to licensure and insurance, can I just terminate the contract if he is unlicensed?

Re: unlicensed building contractor

Yes, if the contract is worded in such a way that would allow for such termination or the project of

such size that by law the contractor must have such a license to complete it.
