Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Apartment Rent

I have a lease on my apartment until June 30, 2008 that states that my rent is 560.00 a month. I got a notice in March that everyone's rent would be increased $15.00 a month starting April 1. I called them and was told that I received the notice by mistake, that my rent would not increase until I signed a new lease. Now they tell me it did increase in April and I owe the difference. Can they do that??

Re: Apartment Rent

If you mean, can they do that legally, the answer must be: only if your current lease contains a provision which would allow for it.
