Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Claim by car rental company

Last week I rented a car from Enterprise for a week. After driving for a few days the car broke down and had to be towed away to a nearby dealership. Enterprise is now filing a claim that the break down was because of an accident caused by me (during the course of the rental) and wants me (or my insurance company) to pay for the repairs. I was not given a chance to have the car inspected to determine whether the break-down was caused by a mechanical failure or because of an accident.

Please let me know what my options are.

Without more information, it's difficult to say(what your options might be.) Surely, you must have some inkling as to the nature and cause of the accident and the likely extent of the damage to the vehicle caused by the accident and whether this damage could be reasonably related to the later breakdown and inoperability of the rental vehicle.
