Can my 17 year old child be responsible for a promissory note she signed promising to pay $500, which is now in collections? She is a Virginia resident.

Minors may disaffirm such obligations unless they were incurred for the purchase of the so-called "necessaries of life", e.g., food, shelter, medical care, etc.
