When a husband dies does the credit cards in his name only become the wifes bill

These bills would ordinarily belong to her deceased husband's estate and should be paid out of estate assets. However, if there are not enough of those assets to pay all of the bills and some of them were incurred in the course of providing the deceased spouse with what the law calls "the necessaries of life" e.g., medical care, room and board, etc., then it's conceivable that the surviving spouse could be liable for these kinds of unpaid bills.
