Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Out of State Identity Theft

If I am presently residing in Virginia and have accounts in California that I am disbuting (because of possible identity theft), do I file a complaint in Virginia or California? I have contacted the collection agencies previously and tried to get proof that the accounts were taken out by my wife. So far I have not been successful in this venture. We have sent them copies of her drivers license to try to verify the account and as expected they come back and say it is hers. I have a copy of the credit report and there is an address on there that we did not live at. Would hiring a lawyer help any?

Re: Out of State Identity Theft

Your fact scenario does not appear to implicate

identity theft, but rather seems to suggest that your wife (from whom apparently you are separated)has been taking out accounts for which you, as her husband, may still have some legal responsibility for paying.
