Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

i was just arrested for a failure to appear in north carolina in 1999, i had 4 charges, safe cracking, burglury, and 2 other charges. I didnt make it to the trial date in 1999 because i was incarserated in virginia for 12 years during the time. i just got out in feburary, now they have a extradition warrent to take me to north carolina, can they charge me with these crimes and the failure to appear if i was locked up at the time and had no way of knowing about the court date all the way back in 1999?

Yes, not only is it possible, but apparently they've already done so(charged you), which is why you'll need a competent N. Carolina criminal defense counsel ASAP to represent you in these matters to have any chance of avoiding conviction on one or more of these serious criminal charges.
