In VA, what are the rights of a homeowner not answering the door to police (not any crime being committed; they don't know if I/others are at home)?

Sure, the homeowner could refuse to answer the door in response to

police knocking, but the cops may still be legally entitled to enter the premises anyway (even without a warrant), depending upon why they are there in the first place or have been summoned and whether the circumstances of the situation might be what the law terms exigent.
