Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

What to do with child when you can do no more?

I live in Virginia and have a 13 year

old son that steals, fights, gets kicked

out of school etc. It is too the point

where I fear for the other kids safety

around him. This may sound horrible,

but can you just take your kid to the

state authorities and leave him?

No, you cannot, but you could contact your local Department of Social Services to determine what services for problem juveniles may be available in your locality to assist with your particular problem child.

Yes, contact DSS. You might also talk to the school administration about other services and interventions they can offer. The alternative education staff are usually quite skilled and knowledgeable about how to help the parents in these difficult situations. It sounds like the courts and others will be intervening also. Good luck.
