Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

child support

Do I have to pay child support if I am not working? My teen daughter was taken out of our house for 6 months by DSS-- My husband paid his support to the state, but our attorney advise me not too since I was not working -- Now I am being taken to court and charged for not paying --- but I can't get a straight answer if I have to pay even if I do not have a job

Re: child support

Yes, if there is a current court order regarding the amount you owe, or an amount for arrears, you will be responsible for paying until you obtain a modification of the order. You should file a motion for modification based upon the significant change of circumstances.
