Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

if the husband commits adultery

If my husband cheats on me, then I divorce him, what are my rights? If he pays any alimony, does he have rights to our son? What is the difference between alimony and child support?

Re: if the husband commits adultery

Your husband's or former husband's rights with respect to his son have nothing to do with whether or not he pays (or is ordered to pay)alimony.

Alimony, is support or maintenance paid to a current or former spouse, quite often for a limited term or period, with the objective of assisting that particular spouse with monetary resources to acquire further training/and or education to facilitate that person's return to the world of work as a self supporting individual.

Child support is just what it implies, namely, a sum certain, normally payable on a regular and periodic basis for the support and maintenance of child(ren).

Neither one has any necessary connection to the other and each may be independently determinable from or without reference to the other.
