Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Modification of court order

I am 74 years old, recently moved to Williamsburg VA from Torrance CA due to health reasons. I have obeyed a court order to pay my former wife support and have steadily paid her since 1983 and now, since I have hardly any savings and my living expenses take my entire social security check, I need to get relief and no longer pay her. She lives in California. She is on state housing in California but has family there to help her out financially. Since I live in Virginia, am I still bound by the court order in California? I cannot afford to fly out there should I be required to appear in court.

Re: Modification of court order

Yes, you continue to be bound by the California order until it is either modified or vacated even though you may now reside in Virginia.
