Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Just received primary custody of Heroin addicted baby

My husband and I took emergency custody of a Heroin Addicted baby when he was 2 mos. old. Today, 11 mos. later, we received primary custody. We want to adopt him, but don't know which avenue to take. Is there a waiting period to adopt and which type of lawyer do we need? (We hired a lawyer for the custody hearing and ended up going into the courtroom today on our own, as he literally took our money and did nothing, not even showing up for the hearing).

You might wish to contact the local social services agency from which you presumably received this child for further advice on the adoption process.

Also, your local bar association should be able to provide you with the names of several private attorneys who handle adoption matters in your particular area.
