Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Using my likeness online

My image was used on a video posted online. It showed animated with pictures of people for heads, and showed my face on the body of a mass murderer killer. I was wondering if they needed to obtain my permission first or if because it was online, they didn't need to. I fear they are trying to slander my name and I would like to know if I have a case. Thank you.
