Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Lost my job

I just loss my job and still have 6 months left on my lease of $750 a month. My husband is disabled and we have 5 kids. The rent is now killing us, we need to find something cheaper now that we can afford. We called the owners and told them about the loss 3 weeks ago but we have yet to hear anything from them. Can we get out of the lease before we got to the point of choosing food or rent?

Unfortunately, very likely, only if the landlord approves your early termination of your lease without penalty.
