Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

responsibility

a friend (A)asked me to get her necklace from another mutual friends house(B) and bring it to her (I was going there anyway). I went there with another friend (C) and gave the necklace to (C) who placed it on the couch. Upon leaving we forgot and left it on the couch. As we were now locked out, I texted friend (A) and she said she would get it later. She could not find it and is now charging me in small claims court for the cost of the necklace. Do you have a legal case that I can cite to show I am not legally responsible for this this ?

Re: responsibility

No, I do not have a specific "legal case" to cite for your situation described, but the venerable, long standing doctrine in Anglo-American law known as Assumption of the Risk might possibly apply as a workable defense in this scenario.
