US citizen spouse resp.

What would be a responsibility of the U.S. citizen spouse once he/ she would sponsoring my application for lawful permanent residency (green card)?

Correction to previous answer: You would need to accrue 40 quarters (rather than 10) of Social Security work credit and divorcing your U.S. citizen spouse apparently would not relieve him or her of the responsibility to support you up to 125% of the amount designated as the federal poverty level.

The sponsoring U.S citizen spouse would incur the following responsibilities for sponsoring your application for LPR:

In the event that you were to receive public funds

in order to maintain yourself while residing in the United States, the sponsoring person would be liable for reimbursing the government for these funds paid out for your benefit up to 125% of the poverty level, until you either died, left the country, acquired 10 quarters of social security work credit, became a U.S. citizen yourself or divorced the sponsoring spouse.
