Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I was a kitchen manager for 2 years and worked 60-80 hours every week(70 average). I was paid salary and I am curious as to wether or not my job is "exempt" from overtime. I did considerably more manual labor than managing of other people. With the salary, I made less than $11 per hour at 70 hours. Just doesn't seem right, considering the excessive 20-40 extra hours a week!!!

You likely were "paid salary", i.e., as a salaried employee so that your employer would not have to pay you overtime for your hours worked in excess of 40

in any given week.

You're right, it sure "just doesn't seem right", but, unfortunately, employers (particularly those in the restaurant business) seem to get away with it all the time.
