Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Exclusive right to represent buyer agreement

hello,

My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a house in Virginia (We are going to be relocating to Virginia from Maryland). We had signed the ''Exclusive Right to Represent Buyer Agreement'' form, which expires on May 30, 2004. We have been very unsatistified with the agent (it seems she is not working for our best interests). We were wondering if it is possible to terminate the contract before the expiration date so we can get another agent to represent us. And if it is possible, how do you go about it? And what are the consequences of early termination?

Please help!

Re: Exclusive right to represent buyer agreement

Why not meet with her and tell her candidly but politely that you don't think she's on your "wave length" when it comes to what you're looking for in a new home. You think it's best to terminate the exclusivity agreement now and save both of you a lot of wasted time. If she's smart she'll agree and terminate it. If she refuses, you can make it clear that it's extremely unlikely that you'll be interested in any property she shows you until the aqreement expires, so she'll just be wasting her time.
