Does one have a chance getting SS disability if did not apply until unemployed for more than 10 years?

No, you usually have to qualify for Social Security Disability within five years of your last employment assuming you were fully employed up until that date. You can try to qualify for SSI which is the Welfare Disability program provided you have no income, assets, and you are not married. The SSI program may not be available for you if you are married and your spouse has income and assets.

The previous answer is correct. Another way of saying it is that you need to have worked five out of the past ten years. So if it's been more than five years since you last worked, you could not have worked five out of the past ten years. You should look into filing for SSI benefits though.
