Charged With Fleeing the Scene Of an Accident

My wife was just charged with Fleeing the scene of an accident. She ran off the road, hit a wood post and was stuck in the mud. She then left with a friend with the idea of calling a Tow truck the next morning. When she returned the car was impounded with a note that the driver ''Fled'' the scene. It was not her intention to avoid the police but rather her ignorance to the proper action in this situation. We have recovered the car from impound but have not yet been given a formal ticket. I assume that we will get that at the police station. I'd like to know if I could expect her to be jailed for this. In addition, what are the fines and punishments for this crime? There were no witnesses and no other damage done.
