suspended liscence different states
I'm a Michigan resident temporarily residing in Palmyra, Va. I recieved a ticket on 9 9 06 for speeding in Virginia. I then was cited for driving on a suspended and another for driving with no motorcycle endorsement. My question is I was cited for driving on a suspended D.U.I. related. The law states that
'' If a person is found to have been driving on a suspended or revoked lisence then the vehicle that he or she is driving must be impounded for a mandatory 30 day period.'' My liscence is a michigan lisence. On 5 5 06 I plead guilty to D.U.I. in Virginia. I was given restricted permission to drive in Va. to get to and from the A.S.A.P. program. During that time I failed to pay the court costs. As a result my right to drive in VA. was revoked. I was cited for driving on a suspended D.U.I. related. On 6 14 06 my Michigan lisence was suspended for friend of the court related matters. How can the state of Va. charge me with dirving on a suspended D.U.I. related when if fact the law states that Va. does not have the jurisdiction to suspend an Michigan liscence. So how am I bein charged with drivin on a suspended D.U.I. related? When in fact my lisence was suspended 1 month prior to my traffic stop in Va. in Michigan.
Re: suspended liscence different states
This inquiry has already been addressed. Virginia
suspended your privilege to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth and not your Michigan driver's license over which the Commonwealth has no jurisdiction.
Yes, there is a difference.
