Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

my mother passed away in early 2005. i handled her estate and paid whatever debts i was obligated to, and closed her estate. today, august 2009, i received a bill in the mail from the hospital for over $3000. it was addressed to her, but at my address. does this need to be paid, since the estate is closed already? what should i do/how should it be handled?

thanks for any help you can give me.

Assuming that the hospital had the opportunity along with your deceased mother's other creditors to present its claim for payment during the period that her estate was open, and that for whatever reason apparently did not, and that no additional monies from the estate which is now closed are still available for the payment of creditor claims, you could write a letter to the hospital in response to their bill informing them of these pertinent facts.
