Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington

im being garnished from a debt from 2001-2002. I havent heard from them since 2002, and now it has incurred 11,223.00 in interest. Is this legal, if so what are my options and who can i talk to. i'm on a really limited budget and have no extra funds.

this garnishment is threating my ability to afford my rent/food and living coditions.it is from a car repo

To garnish wages in general there has to be a judgment. Did the creditor obtain a judgment? If they did and it was lawfully obtained, it is good for 10 years, and statutory interest is 12%/year. I would anticipate that the creditor utilized supplemental proceedings, and obtained an order of garnishment. One option is to file for bankruptcy; as to other options, there may be room to negotiate, but the creditor would probably want some form of payment.
