Legal Question in DUI Law in Washington

DUI Charge

I was charged but not convicted of a

dui. I applied for a job that involved

some driving, and was rejected based

on this charge. Is this legal? I was

denied the job much before my case

was even heard in court.

Re: DUI Charge

Protection from job discrimination is limited to age, sex, religion, race/color, national origin, disability, and political affiliation. People don't have an absolute "right" to employment, and a potential employer can decline to employ anyone for any reason not specifically protected as above. Thus, if an employer involved in the transportation business notes you have a pending DUI, he or she can legally decline to employ you, regardless of whether that matter is pending or resolved.
