Re: Epson

In the state of Washington, a minor who is sixteen years of age or older and a resident of the state of Washington may petition the court for a Decree of Emancipation.

When deciding whether to grant the Decree of Emancipation, the court considers various factors, such as: (1) whether the petitioner has the ability to manage his or her financial affairs; and (2) whether the petitioner has the ability to manage his or her personal, social, educational, and nonfinancial affairs.

If the Petition for Emancipation is opposed, then the court is unlikely to grant the Decree of Emancipation.
