Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Filing for child support modification

After I file for child support modification, what is the next step that happens? Does the court take over and starts the process with the parties involved? Or do I? Can I file for modification myself or need an Attorney? Is there a deadline after filing? Is there a benefit for filing for modification in the event my ex refuses to recalculate support with me? Thank you.

Re: Filing for child support modification

After you file the child support adjustment, you have to get the other party served. As the moving party the burden is still on you to carry the matter forward. You may file the motion yourself. You are not required by law or rule to have an attorney, but if you don't know what you are doing you may wish you had an attorney. Most counties have family law facilitators, they may be able to help you with some of the procedural details.
