Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

I am single mom of 17 year old, went thru bad divorce with bad attny that has since been disbarred, within the last month. My ex had high end attorney that he can afford since he makes 100 thou early, I make 25 thou. We have 2 children together, he had custody of son, mainly for residental credit because my son lived with me and as long as I didnt modify the 200 month child support, he could stay. He has now turned 18, state is seeking to modify the order. He is fighting it and since he knows I cant afford an attorney, his attorney is sending me intorrogetories and papers that I know nothing about. I cant borrow the money for advice, what do I do?

I would recommend trying to set up a free consultation with a handful of local family law attorneys to discuss your case with them, as well as the potential fees they would charge. Given there is such a large disparity between your income and your former spouse's income, any attorney could potentially ask that your former spouse cover a portion (if not all) of your attorney's fees. This provision is found in RCW 26.09.140. You could also visit http://www.washingtonlawhelp.org/ or call CLEAR (info on the prior webpage) for some low cost legal assistance.
