Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

My wife of 20 years wants her 35 year old son from a previous marriage to live with us for an extended period of time - probably a year or more.\n\nHer son was just recently released from prison after serving a 6 year sentence. He has been in prison the majority of his life since age 16.\n\nMy question is - If I don\'t want him living in our house, do I have the legal right to insist that he not live with us even if his mother wants him to? The title of the house is in both our names.\n\nThanks for your answer\n\n

Yes, you do have the right to exclude him. You can obtain a restraining order against him, which prevents him from coming to the home. As a practical matter though, I suggest that you work something out with your wife of 20 years, because I imagine a restraining order won't go over so well with her and if he is being paroled, that might land him back in prison.
