Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Washington

If both husband and wife are named on a lawsuit in Washington state do both need to be present at the hearing?

In civil litigation the parties have no obligation to be present at hearings (or trial for that matter), but bad things can happen if the parties don't appear or respond to motions. If this is a hearing where the parties will have an opportunity to testify and both husband and wife have relevant information they should probably both go to a hearing.
